Bocce
Roll, Aim & Have Fun!
Bocce is a fun, strategic sport in which athletes roll balls toward a smaller target ball, called the palina, with the goal of getting their balls closest to the target. One of the most popular sports in Special Olympics worldwide, bocce combines skill, concentration and strategy with plenty of opportunities for teamwork and social interaction. Athletes may compete in singles, doubles and team events, as well as Unified Sports® competition.
What athletes need: Comfortable athletic clothing and closed-toe athletic shoes. Bocce balls and other competition equipment are provided by the team or competition venue.
Season: Practices generally begin in late summer, with Area and Regional competitions in September. The season may culminate with the Special Olympics Texas Fall Classic in October for eligible athletes.
