Pedal With Pride. Ride Like the Wind. Gooooo Road Rascals!
Special Olympics cycling gives athletes the opportunity to build confidence, endurance and bike-handling skills while competing at distances suited to their abilities. Events range from short races for developing riders to longer road races for experienced cyclists. Because we are a “combined” team, we include athletes from the College Station A Team and the Aggie Bombers. Thus, we compete as Road Rascals.
What athletes need: A properly fitted bicycle in good working condition, an approved cycling helmet, closed-toe athletic shoes and comfortable clothing appropriate for riding. Athletes should already be somewhat confident riding a bike or adult trike, and have the ability to transport and store their own bikes and trikes. Riders should also bring a water bottle.
Season: A pre-season meeting and practices generally begin in February and continues throughout the spring. We ride twice weekly — Wednesday evenings and Saturdays or Sundays — at locations around Bryan and College Station, including parks, bike trails and bike lanes on streets. Area competition typically takes place in April, with qualifying athletes advancing to the Special Olympics Texas Summer Games in late April or early May.
